Exactly six months ago, on June 10, 2014 - Strigino International Airport began the construction of the new Nizhny Novgorod terminal. At the moment, the reinforced concrete and metal structures of the building frame are almost fully completed. The builders have come close to the erection of the building envelope – the roof on the metal frame and facades, in the near future they will also initiate the installation of the transition bridge between the towers of the boarding bridges and the new terminal building. The work is being carried out 24 hours a day, about 300 workers and more than 30 units of modern construction equipment are employed.
Czech company PSJ, the general contractor, is keeping to the construction schedule with 100 percent accuracy. The construction progress is under the strict control of the investor, Airports of Regions Management Company, and authorities. The head of the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast Valery Shantsev conducts a regular inspection of the construction, and on November 18, First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov visited the site in the framework of the working visit to prepare the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast for the World Cup 2018.
For reference: the commissioning of the VFD capital’s new terminal is planned for December 2015. The modern airport terminal with a total area of 27.8 thousand square meters will be equipped with 4 air bridges, its capacity will exceed 1.5 million passengers per year. For the comfort and convenience of passengers, spacious lounges, shops and cafes will be placed on an area of over 1500 square meters, parking lot is designed for 800 cars. A distinctive feature of the airport complex will be a modern automated baggage handling system and automatic system for monitoring queues in the passenger handling areas.
