Finnair opens Scandinavia for Nizhny Novgorod residents

On Saturday, July 26, the first flight to Helsinki departed from Strigino International Airport (belongs to Airports of Regions Group). This flight launched the program establishing for first time direct air service between the capitals of Finland and the Volga Federal District. Now, three times a week Nizhny Novgorod residents can fly directly from Nizhny Novgorod Airport to Helsinki-Vantaa Airport, and from there, thanks to the variety of fast and convenient connecting flights, get to almost anywhere in Europe, Asia and North America.

Flights on route Nizhny Novgorod - Helsinki will be operated by the Embraer 190 aircraft, the number of passengers - up to 100 people. Let’s note that the Finnair’s fleet is one of the youngest and most environmentally friendly in Europe: the average age of an aircraft is 7 years, long-haul - 3 years. JACDEC Research Bureau in 2012 named Finnair the safest airline in Europe and the second in terms of safety in the world. Presently air service is carried out by 57 Finnair airliners and 15 aircraft of Flybe Nordic (the subsidiary company), and in 2015, Finnair will become the first European buyer of the Airbus A350 XWB.

- It is gratifying that Finnair, a member of one of the largest alliances Oneworld, has now come to Nizhny Novgorod - shared his thoughts with the guests of the event Strigino Airport Executive Director Alexander Sinelnikov. – The start of Finnish carrier’s flights shows the interest of international airlines to cooperation with Nizhny Novgorod airport.

From Helsinki Nizhny Novgorod passengers can take the geographically shortest route to more than 60 European cities and 15 cities in Asia. Among the latest novelties of the season - Miami, Phuket, Krabi, Tromso, Biarritz, Pisa, even more flights to Dusseldorf, Zurich, Dubrovnik, Malaga, Paris, Rome and Tel Aviv.

- We are pleased to open today the flight program Helsinki-Nizhny Novgorod and to thank the authorities of Strigino Airport with whom we are cooperating effectively and who made a lot for this program to take place - said Finnair’s Commercial Director Allister Paterson. - We are starting with three flights a week and offer the residents of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, both tourists and business passengers, to reach the main cities in Scandinavia, the Baltics and the most popular among Russians cities in Europe before 10 a.m., which provides not only an opportunity for business meetings but also good connections. Competitive prices, we hope, will also be of interest for the passengers.

Mr Allister Paterson pointed out that Finnair had been flying to Russia for 56 years, and Nizhny Novgorod had become the fourth city where the flights were performed, after Moscow, St. Petersburg and Ekaterinburg.
