Direct Flights Strigino–Pulkovo Mark Three Years

This day, June 6, marks exactly three years since UTair linked Nizhny Novgorod and St. Petersburg by direct flights. Launching air service between the cities became a basis for strengthening business ties and development of tourism, as well as an alternative to rail transport, up to then not available.

- Saint Petersburg destination is the second largest air market for Russian carriers. Three years ago, UTair took a far-sighted decision to open the program from Nizhny Novgorod – says Vladimir Kamynin, Director for Aviation Business Development of MC Airports of Region. - Last winter after commissioning of the new passenger terminal at Pulkovo, reconstruction of its infrastructure and opening of new public transport routes to St. Petersburg, the direct flight from Strigino became even more attractive to the Nizhny Novgorod natives. However, most optimistic forecast for the route demand can be given for the end of 2015 when the new passenger terminal of Nizhny Novgorod international airport - modern, with most comfortable conditions for passengers and new high quality level of service will be put into operation.

- Over three years the airline has carried on this route more than 86,000 passengers and performed more than 1,800 flights in both directions, - commented UTair-Passenger Airlines President Oleg Semenov. – The service has been gaining popularity among passengers year after year due to its convenient schedule. It is attractive for both business travelers and holiday-makers.

Let’s note that only 20 passengers flew on board the first aircraft bound for St.Petersburg from Strigino. The Tu-134 operating the flight initially was subsequently replaced by the Bombardier CRJ-200, and in the last autumn-winter period due to steady demand and positive growth dynamics in passenger traffic the aircompany utilized the larger (up to 114 seats) airliner Boeing 737-500.

For the sake of passengers’ convenience check-in at Nizhny Novgorod airport closes 20 minutes before departure of the aircraft. The flights are operated daily at 07.55, the return flights from St. Petersburg - at 22.30. Travel time – 2 hours.
